Homeopathy

“Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease” – Hippocrates

About Homeopathy

Holistic health care treatment by a Homeopath, means using a system of comprehensive patient care that considers your physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs; your response to illness; and the effect of chronic illness on your ability to function in a way that’s normal to you. With Homeopathy we treat each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating the body’s own natural healing ability. With this in mind, homeopathy can also do this with each acute episode of illness, by enabling you to support your body’s own self-righting ability and natural desire to re-balance and heal.

Homeopathy was invented by Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician who had become dissatisfied with the medicines of his day. Hahnemann lived in a time before the rudiments of modern medicine had been developed. He began experimenting on himself and a group of healthy volunteers, giving smaller and smaller medicinal doses, discovering that as well as reducing toxicity, the medicines became more effective as the doses were lowered. He then stumbled upon an amazing discovery when he self-administered a small amount of cinchona bark, which contains quinine the drug used to treat malaria, as he then started to develop the symptoms of malaria. From this observation he developed homeopathy’s first law, “similia similibus curentur,” or let likes be cured by likes. In other words that which a substance is capable of causing, it is also capable of curing.

The principle of treating “like with like” dates back to Hippocrates (‘Father of Medicine’ 460-377BC) “By similar things a disease is produced and through the application of the like is cured”.

Homeopathy has become the second largest system of medicine in the world today. With over 200 million people using it worldwide. In India alone, more than 100 million people depend solely on homeopathy for their healthcare. Our own royal family are advocates for Homeopathy as Prince Charles is a well-known user and has spoken out in favour of integrated healthcare. The Queen is patron of the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (formerly the London Homeopathic Hospital)

Your Health & Well-being

Homeopathy is designed to help people with physical, emotional or psychological concerns. You may have been given a medical diagnosis or simply feel and know in yourself that your energy, mood or body isn’t as well as it should be. Homeopathic treatment is an opportunity to explore the areas you need help with, come to understand the possible cause and find a remedy that stimulates your recovery and boosts your sense of well-being.

The Consultation

The initial consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes. Together we explore yours and your family’s health history. This time is yours to express the full picture of your health problems, what you would like some help with, what symptoms you experience and how life is for you. I will ask you everything you know about your condition. Confidentiality is always paramount and information shared is viewed objectively.

By adopting a patient centred approach, we take into account all your symptoms that you need help with, whether they seem connected or not. Because homeopathic treatment is so individualised the emphasis is on how your symptoms or complaints are experienced by you. The opportunity to speak in depth about yourself, although unfamiliar for some, is often very therapeutic and enables people to understand themselves and their illness in a new way.

Treatment

After the consultation, I prescribe a remedy which can be collected or posted out to you. I keep in touch after 7 days, for a progress report. We meet again 3-6 weeks later, and then (if needed) about a month after that. At that stage, I expect us to be in a position to fully evaluate improvement and future treatment where necessary. In less chronic conditions, the time scale may be a lot briefer.
I work from a variety of locations, including home visits if required.

It can be useful for you to make a note of any changes, no matter how slight, which occur between appointments, as we will discuss these at your follow up.

If I feel it would be of benefit, I may direct you to seek advice from other therapists or to consult your doctor for tests or further investigations.

The Remedies

Homeopathic medicines go through a system of extreme dilution and are mostly made from either plant, animal or mineral sources, exactly as they are found in nature. The dilutions mean that they are non-addictive, have no toxic side-effects and can be safely used alongside traditional medicines. This also makes it highly suitable for people who are especially sensitive to conventional medicines and are looking for a more gentle system of healthcare. Due to their extreme dilution homeopathic remedies prove particularly effective in treating ailments in pregnancy, childbirth and for postpartum healing and any breastfeeding issues should they arise.

All remedies are prepared by a licensed Homeopathic pharmacy and are in the form of a tablet, a powder or in liquid.  The remedies taste pleasant and are best dissolved in a bland mouth.  In practise this means not eating, drinking, or brushing teeth at least 20 minutes either side of taking them. Remedies are particularly sensitive to strong smells and sunlight so should be stored well away from them. Doses are short term, sometimes only a single pill is needed, and by stimulating the body’s own natural capacity to heal, equilibrium can be gently restored, the immune system can begin to recover and a gradual and permanent return to good health encouraged.

Training

I graduated from the North West College of Homeopathy in Manchester in 2018.

Values

Integrity, confidentiality, respect and collaboration all play a major part of the therapeutic relationships that I form with the people I work with. My role is to understand and respond to their health concerns and priorities, so that homeopathy can help them achieve gentle, effective and permanent recovery. Being a Homeopath enables me to combine my awe and respect for the power and beauty of nature with a fascination for the complexity and changeability of the human condition.

About me

I first came to Homeopathy in 2009 when my eldest child was born. I took Homeopathic Arnica to help with the bruising and discomfort I felt on the day of her birth. I recovered well and felt drawn to this gentle system of healing and wanted to know more. Over the early years of parenting, and again when pregnant with my 2nd child, I continued as a home prescriber to use homeopathic remedies to treat myself throughout pregnancy and for breast feeding issues. Then my family for coughs, colds, bumps, bruises, teething, earache, fevers, digestive upsets and minor injuries which were treated with great success using only my basic Homeopathic Remedy Kit and a simple guide book for pinpointing remedies. My confidence and hunger for knowledge about this gentle and effective system of medicine evolved further to then study for a professional qualification at The NWCH over 4 years. Qualifying as a professional Homeopathic practitioner in 2018 has been so rewarding for me personally and I feel honoured to share the beauty of this powerful holistic approach to health care with my many clients.

Quick Links For Help

What can homeopathy treat?

As the person is the focus, not the illness, then any ailment can be treated with Homeopathy.  Please note, treatment in this context does not imply cure but a detailed exploration of your case & suggestions for an indicated remedy to restore health.

What is a remedy?

A remedy is a minute dose of a vegetable, animal or mineral source. They are non-addictive and because of the tiny amounts used they do not have toxic side-effects.  This makes it highly suitable for babies & young children, pregnant women and people who are especially sensitive to conventional medicines.

What happens once I've taken a remedy?

Remedies appear to act as a stimulant to your own natural healing process. Often this passes unnoticed, but sometimes some sort of clearing occurs, possibly emotional, through tears or dreams.  This may also be felt in a physical manner in the form of cold symptoms, a discharge, slight rash, headache or other minor ailment.

Many people experience an increased sense of well-being soon after taking a remedy.  Sometimes current symptoms may temporarily get worse.  These are seen as good signs that the remedy is working and will generally resolve themselves in a few days. They are part of the natural healing process and are best not treated, with any sort of medicine, even homeopathic ones.  These symptoms normally precede improvement.

How soon will treatment be effective?

This is as individual to each case as the treatment applied.  Some situations may be resolved fairly quickly, such as those of a relatively short-term nature.  Long-term problems or illnesses due to their chronic nature may take more time to show improvement.

Whilst Homeopathy often yields very positive results it is not a quick fix.  It is more practical to think of Homeopathic treatment as a process which can lead to a gradual improvement in your quality of life.

What happens in a consultation?

First Consultation approx 90 mins:  £70.00
Follow-up Consultation/s approx 45 mins:  £50.00

The above fees include the remedy prescribed for that appointment.

First Aid/Acute Prescriptions over the phone:  £10.00 for 10 mins. £20 for 20mins payable via paypal at paypal.me/Yogafor2

Pre-Birth Consultation (2 hours) including Helios Homeopathic Remedy Birth Kit and Booklet (18 remedies):  £80

One day workshops for 1st Aid/Acute ailments tutoring GROUP session. To include Helios Basic Remedy Kit & home prescribing booklet:  £80 per attendee

Appointments not attended, without 24 hrs notice of cancellation, incur a charge of 50% of consultation fee.

What ongoing support do you offer?

Any queries that arise between appointments may be discussed briefly over the telephone or via text on 07950336495 or email hello@headtoheal.uk

When I am away on holiday or attending further training courses I have a trusted colleague who provides locum cover for me.  Her telephone number will be on my answer phone message when I’m occasionally unavailable.  She will be able to answer any queries & give advice over the phone and ensure you have a good continuity of care.

Where can I see you?

I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and work from a variety of locations. Home visits are always available within the Harrogate district. Wider travel will incur mileage costs. Once I have seen someone for an initial consultation, face to face, I can offer phone consultations for follow ups, if preferred. If travel is an issue Skype or Zoom consultations are available.

Dani Bedding Mindful Hypnobirthing in North Yorkshire

New course dates for 2021 💜

🗓 NEW WORKSHOP DATES!! 🗓
Did you know our one day hypnobirthing workshops accompany the best selling book 'Mindful Hypnobirthing'? Written by clinical hypnotherapist Sophie Fletcher, the founder of www.Mindfulmamma.co.uk She devised the Mindfulmamma hypnobirthing method and found that there was no difference in the outcomes whether the course was taught over a number of weeks, a weekend or one day. Even virtually, during the current restrictions, zoom sessions are proving to be as successful at conveying the therapeutic effect during our workshops, as the in person events pre-lockdown.
She wanted to try and make hypnobirthing accessible to all so she set about designing a workshop that was short and cost effective yet still achieved the same fantastic outcomes.
Our one day workshops are £150. After the workshop you get ongoing support from me for free, for as long as you need it and access to an online support group.
If you want to find out more about positive birthing during unprecedented times, please get in touch or take a look at my website www.headtoheal.uk #mindfulmamma

Calming Golden Breath practice with Yoga for 2

Do you 'own' your breath? Try this wonderful calming breathing practice to caress and comfort a tired and hardworking mind and body. Golden Thread Breathing with me, Dani Bedding. Enjoy the peacefullness that follows....
To practise calming Golden Thread Breath visualise a beautiful spool of golden thread just in front of your lips. Start by softening your lips and relaxing your jaw. As you exhale imagine you are trying to gently blow the spool of thread away from you. You could even imagine sunlight shimmering on the golden thread as it moves further and further away from your gently pursed lips. Keep your mouth and jaw as relaxed as possible. Tensing this area of the body may also cause you to tense your pelvic floor which may not help the effectiveness of your contractions. If you regularly practice this breathwork during pregnancy, it will become more familiar and therefore easier to focus on during labour #HypnobirthingNYorkshire #yogafor2 #headtoheal #mindfulmamma

💕💕During such strange and unprecedented times here is a virtual (((hug))) for all my wonderful pregnant and postnatal yoga clients 💕💕

Researchers have discovered something fantastic. When a hug lasts 20 seconds, there is a therapeutic effect on the body and mind. The reason is that a sincere embrace produces a hormone called "oxytocin", also known as the love hormone. This substance has many benefits to our physical and mental health, helps us, among other things, to relax, to feel safe and to calm our fears and anxiety. This wonderful tranquilizer is offered free of charge every time we have a person in our arms, to cradle a child, to cherish a dog or a cat, dancing with our partner, the closer we get to someone or simply just to hold the shoulders of a friend.
A famous quote by psychotherapist Virginia Satir goes, “We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.” Whether those exact numbers have been scientifically proven remains to be seen, but there is a great deal of scientific evidence related to the importance of hugs and physical contact.
So ....Here are some reasons why we all should hug::

1. STIMULATES OXYTOCIN

Oxytocin is a neurotransmitter that acts on the limbic system, the brain’s emotional centre, promoting feelings of contentment, reducing anxiety and stress, and even making mammals monogamous- The bonding hormone 😍 It is the hormone responsible for us all being here today. You see this little gem is released during childbirth, supporting bonding, the desire to nurture and boosting milk flow. New research from the University of California suggests that it has a similarly civilising effect on human males, making them more affectionate and attentive to their newborn. When we hug someone, oxytocin is released into our bodies by our pituitary gland, lowering both our heart rates and our cortisol levels. Cortisol is the hormone responsible for stress, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

2. CULTIVATES PATIENCE

Connections are fostered when people take the time to appreciate and acknowledge one another. A hug is one of the easiest ways to show appreciation and acknowledgement of another person 😘 The world is a busy, hustle-bustle place and we’re constantly rushing to the next task. By slowing down and taking a moment to offer sincere hugs throughout the day, we’re benefiting ourselves, others, and cultivating better patience within ourselves.

3. PREVENTS DISEASE

Affection also has a direct response on the reduction of stress which prevents many diseases 🤢 The Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine says it has carried out more than 100 studies into touch and found evidence of significant effects, including faster growth in premature babies. In adults - reduced pain, decreased autoimmune disease symptoms, lowered glucose levels in children with diabetes, and improved immune systems in people with cancer.

4. STIMULATES THYMUS GLAND

Hugs strengthen the immune system. The gentle pressure on the sternum and the emotional charge this creates activates the Solar Plexus Chakra 🧡 This stimulates the thymus gland, which regulates and balances the body’s production of white blood cells, which keep you healthy and disease free.

5. COMMUNICATION WITHOUT SAYING A WORD

Almost 70 percent of communication is nonverbal 🤐 The interpretation of body language can be based on a single gesture and hugging is an excellent method of expressing yourself nonverbally to another human being or animal. Not only can they feel the love and care in your embrace, but they can actually be receptive enough to pay it forward to others based on your initiative alone.

6. SELF-ESTEEM

Hugging boosts self-esteem, especially in children. The tactile sense is all-important in infants. A baby recognizes its parents initially by touch. From the time we’re born our family’s touch shows us that we’re loved and special. The associations of self-worth and tactile sensations from our early years are still imbedded in our nervous system as adults. The cuddles we received from our Mum and Dad while growing up remain imprinted at a cellular level, and hugs remind us at a somatic level of just that. Hugs, therefore, connect us to our ability to self love 🥰

7. STIMULATES DOPAMINE

Everything everyone does involves protecting and triggering dopamine flow. Low dopamine levels play a role in the neurodegenerative disease Parkinson’s as well as mood disorders such as depression. Dopamine is responsible for giving us that feel-good feeling, and it’s also responsible for motivation! Hugs stimulate brains to release dopamine, the pleasure hormone 🧠 Dopamine sensors are the areas that many stimulating drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine target. The presence of a certain kinds of dopamine receptors are also associated with sensation-seeking.

8. STIMULATES SEROTONIN

Reaching out and hugging releases endorphins and serotonin into the blood vessels and the released endorphins and serotonin cause pleasure and negate pain and sadness and decrease the chances of getting heart problems, helps fight excess weight and prolongs life. Even the cuddling of pets has a soothing effect that reduces the stress levels 🐶 Hugging for an extended time lifts one’s serotonin levels, elevating mood and creating happiness.

9. PARASYMPATHETIC BALANCE

Hugs balance out the nervous system. The skin contains a network of tiny, egg-shaped pressure centres called Pacinian corpuscles that can sense touch 👐👐👐and which are in contact with the brain through the vagus nerve. The galvanic skin response of someone receiving and giving a hug shows a change in skin conductance. The effect in moisture and electricity in the skin suggests a more balanced state in the parasympathetic nervous system – The system that promotes rest, digestion and relaxation.
